'Golden Boys?' Matt Bomer and Nathan Lane Set to Star in Hulu Sitcom

Out icons Matt Bomer and Nathan Lane are set to star alongside Linda Lavin in a sitcom that will stream on Hulu. Titled "Mid-Century Modern," the upcoming series seems to adapt a classic formula: That of "The Golden Girls."
Calling the project an "even gayer roommate sitcom," Variety's Marc Malkin detailed that, according to "sources," "Bomer will take on the ditzy Rose-like character, played by Betty White in the original 'Golden Girls,' with Lane taking on the Dorothy (Bea Arthur) of the bunch.
"Linda Lavin will play Lane's mother, à la the original Sophia."
But wait: The queer factor is about to skyrocket even more.
"The new series will be set in the gay mecca of Palm Springs," Malkin revealed, before dropping the tantalizing detail that, according to a release from the streamer, there's "a naked Gen Z housekeeper" on hand to keep things tidy... or not.
"The series follows three best friends – gay gentlemen of a certain age – who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs where the wealthiest one lives with his mother," the release explained.
The Hulu release shared more tidbits, including that Lane's character, Bunny, will be the wealthy gent and Lavin will play his mother, Sybil.
"'A successful businessman with one foot in retirement, Bunny is forever in search of love, but he first has to be convinced he's worthy of it," the release narrated.
"Like her son, Sybil's strengths are her weaknesses: Wise, caring, and iconoclastic – which sometimes means she's critical, smothering and amoral."
Regarding Bomer's character, the release detailed, "Jerry left the Mormon Church and his marriage in his early 20s after his wife informed him and the rest of the congregation that he was a homosexual.
"Now a latter-day saint in the literal sense of the term, Jerry is pure of heart," the release added. "He is also hard of body and soft of head."
It's a classic combination for sitcom gold.
