Caitlyn Headed to Cleveland, Trans Icon to Appear at GOP Convention Brunch
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
One of these things is not like the other: pro-life activists, anti-LGBT activists and the world's most famous transgender person. And yet, all three will be in Cleveland during the Republican National Convention later this month.
"The party conventions are like the political Olympics, and I'm excited to be headed to Cleveland to stand with my fellow LGBT Republicans and allies," Caitlyn Jenner said in a statement sent to The Daily Beast.
Jenner, who is not yet attending the convention itself, is scheduled to appear two days prior to the convention on Wednesday July 20 at 9: 00 a.m.with host Montel Williams at the "Big Tent Brunch" listed by the American Unity Fund and gay conservative group Log Cabin Republicans.
"As a proud Republican and transgender woman, I want to support courageous Republicans who advocate for LGBT freedom. Our country's nondiscrimination laws must be updated and this cannot be achieved without bipartisan support. Congress needs to act, along with almost thirty Republican states, to update our nondiscrimination laws. I want to do my part to persuade more Republicans to support freedom for millions of LGBT Americans," Jenner concluded.
Jenner's participation at the RNC event is welcome news for the GOP, which in the past has been woefully bereft of many Hollywood or sports A-listers
On Tuesday, July 19, the evening before Wednesday's brunch with Jenner, "American Idol" Season 12 winner Candice Glover, "The Voice" Season 2 winner Jermaine Paul, "American Idol" contestant Melinda Doolittle and "The Voice" contestant Dez Duron are set to appear at the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County & Log Cabin Republicans Convention Watch Party & Concert: "American Idol vs. The Voice!"
