Before settling on David Crosby, Melissa Etheridge considered asking Brad Pitt to be her sperm donor, she revealed in an interview with Australia's Studio 10 (via Jezebel).

The musician and her then-partner Julie Cypher decided against using the "By the Sea" star because they wanted a donor who wouldn't want to co-parent.

"Well actually, because [Brad Pitt] was such a good friend of mine and we did consider it and yet, I looked and I saw how badly we wanted children and I thought, 'I don't want to share this with someone who really, badly wants children because my children don't need another parent -- they have two,'" Etheridge said. "Of course now my teenagers are like, 'I could have had Brad Pitt as my dad!' My son said, 'I could've been amazingly handsome!'"

The singer continued: "It's one of the reasons why David Crosby and his wife are so perfect -- because they already had children. They were looking to do this as a gift. And my children are lovely and gorgeous anyway."

Cypher gave birth to two children during her relationship with Etheridge: Bailey Jean, in 1997, and Beckett, in 1998. After ending their relationship in 2000, Etheridge entered into a relationship with actress Tammy Lynn Michaels. The couple announced Michaels was pregnant with twins via an anonymous sperm donor in 2007. Michaels gave birth to daughter Johnnie Rose and son Miller Steven. Etheridge and Michaels separated in 2010.
