The late Joan Rivers, who died at the age of 80 last September after suffering complications from a minor throat procedure, was left out of the 87th Academy Award's "In Memoriam" segment, Variety reports.

Though she did not have a robust filmography and was never nominated for an Academy Award, Rivers was a staple during award season and red carpet events for the last 20 years. According to Vulture, she started hosting E!'s Oscar Red Carpet special in 1995 and made the pre-shows to award season an event themselves.

Rivers may have been best known for being on TV and standup, but she did appear in a number of films over the years, including "Spaceballs" and "The Muppets Take Manhattan." She also won a Grammy this year for Best Spoken Word Album.

In contrast, Maya Angelou, novelist-writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez and artist H.R. Ginger all appeared in the montage, however.

Also left out of the montage was the late Broadway legend Elaine Stritch, whose 2014 documentary "Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me," was snubbed for Best Documentary.

As the New York Post points out, Twitter was enraged when realized that Rivers was omitted from the segment.

"Joan Rivers has one heck of an IMDB page...was she missed on purpose in memoriam? #Oscars2015," one user wrote.

"No Joan Rivers. #Oscars #EpicFail," another tweeted.

The segment was presented by Meryl Streep, who was nominated for her role as the Witch in "Into the Woods."
