Neil Patrick Harris finally married his longtime partner David Burtka in Italy Saturday, People magazine reports.

"We happily confirm that Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka were married in Italy in an intimate ceremony surrounded by their close friends and family," Harris's representative told the publication.

The 41-year-old actor confirmed the marriage by taking to his Twitter Monday.

"Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the 'n' and 'd' in 'husband,'" he wrote.

People reports the men were wearing tuxedos designed by Tom Ford and that close friend and mentor Pam Fryman, the longtime director of "How I Met Your Mother" (the sitcom Harris starred in before the series ended earlier this year), officiated the ceremony.

The couple's fraternal twins, Harper Grace and Gideon Scott, 3, also took part in the wedding. The event was highlighted with a performance at the reception by Sir Elton John.

Harris and Burtka, a 39-year-old chef and actor, announced their engagement on Twitter in June 2011, after New York legalized same-sex marriage by passing the Marriage Equality Act, E! Online reports.

"It PASSED! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!!" Harris tweeted at the time. "David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date."

The couple, who have been together for 10 years, lives in a townhouse in New York City.
