Latest Apple iOS Update Includes Several New LGBTQ Emojis
Apple has just rolled out 217 new emojis in the most recent iOS 14.5 update, with a plethora of LGBTQ-inclusive additions, The Guardian reports.
Of the new LGBTQ-related emoji, updates include interracial and gay couples with over 200 different skin tones, and with male, female, and gender-neutral options. Skin tone and gender options were previously limited to the people-holding-hands emoji.
There are also several bearded lady options that, The Guardian notes, look very similar to Conchita Wurst, the 2014 Eurovision contest winner from Austria. Previously, only a male with a beard was an available option — now users can select a man or a woman with facial hair.
Other new emoji include syringes filled with clear liquid, which can be used to tell people that one has received the COVID-19 vaccination. Also, the "stoner" emoji feature three separate faces — one exhaling, another with spiraling eyes, and a third behind a cloud of smoke.
