Anne Heche's former partner Ellen DeGeneres and other celebrities took to social media to share sadness and sympathy after news broke that Heche was brain dead following a fiery crash last week.

"On August 5, the 'Donnie Brasco' actor reportedly crashed her car into a Los Angeles home and the car subsequently became engulfed in flames," Vulture recounted.

"Heche was taken to a hospital where she received treatment for burns and a pulmonary injury and remained in a coma until her death on August 12."

Hollywood stars shared their reactions to the tragedy on Twitter and Instagram, including Ellen, who had previously had little to say about Heche's crash and injuries.

"This is a sad day," DeGeneres sent out via Twitter.

"I'm sending Anne's children, family and friends all of my love," DeGeneres added, including an emoji of herself with hearts for eyes.

"Men in Trees" co-star James Tupper — who had a son with Heche — posted "love you forever" together with a photo of the actress at his Instagram page.

Though the relationship did not last, the partnership of Heche and DeGeneres made waves when the two went public in the late 1990s. Filmmaker Ted Geoghegan, who grew up in Great Fall, Montana, took note of that in a tweet that shared a photo of Heche and DeGeneres when they were a couple.

"Kids today don't know what it was like, but I vividly recall when Anne Heche and Ellen Degeneres came out about their relationship back in 1997," Geoghegan posted.

"I was in awe, and remember thinking, 'This could really change things for people,' " Geoghegan added. "Thank you for so bravely taking that step, Anne. RIP"

Heche's 20-year-old son Homer Laffoon put out a statement in which he said, "My brother Atlas and I lost our Mom. After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I am left with a deep, wordless sadness. Hopefully my mom is free from pain and beginning to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom," CNN noted.

Jewelry designer Nancy Davis took to Instagram to post, "Heaven has a new Angel."

Added Davis: "Anne was always the kindest, most thoughtful person who always brought out the best in me."

Other celebrities made their sentiments known, as well.

Former romantic partner and "Hung" co-str Thomas Jane shared his thoughts offline in comments to UK newspaper the Daily Mail, Us Magazine reported.

"My thoughts and prayers are with Anne, one of the true talents of her generation," Jane said.

"Heche's death tragically comes as she was working on several projects," People Magazine noted. "In June, she wrapped on Lifetime's 'Girl in Room 13,' set to premiere this fall. She was also expected to star opposite Dermot Mulroney in the upcoming horror-thriller 'Full Ride,' had a recurring role in 'All Rise 'on OWN, and was premiering in Sam Levinson and The Weeknd's HBO show 'Idol.'
