Out Actor Colton Haynes Writes Essay About Mental Illness

Thursday December 22, 2016

"Scream Queens" star Colton Haynes wrote a pair of essays for Paper magazine this week, opening up about his mental health.

In his pieces, the 28-year-old actor compared his current mental health to his state in November 2014, as Page Six notes.

"Something's been off recently. I honestly wake up after 5 hours of sleep wide awake," Haynes wrote. "It's probably from the bottle of wine I drank before I finally fell asleep/passed out or the amount of pills I'd had ... Wishing I was the old Colton. The person who used to love going out and talking to my family/friends."

He went on to write: "To the public eye, my possibilities are endless but in my mind ... I'm fading away and battling to hide the pain and emotion that has plagued me my entire life. I've cheated, lied, & finally owned up to it. I actually accomplished something that could have me set for life. I have money but I am lonely... this is my fault though. I don't want to let anyone in."

Haynes then wrote: "I asked to step away because I cared more about my mental and physical health than my career at the time. I've had terminal anxiety my entire life. Physically ill, fainting. I'm 27 years old, and I have an ulcer. I had to step back."

Haynes came out as gay earlier this year and later talked about how his sexuality impacted his life and family
