The following is a press release from aGLIFF, the All Genders, Lifestyles, and Identities Film Festival:)

Austin's oldest film festival, aGLIFF (All Genders, Lifestyles, and Identities Film Festival) announces the full 2021 schedule for screenings and special events along with late addition "The Novice" by Lauren Hadaway for PRISM 34 taking place August 26 — September 6, 2021.

Founded by Scott Dinger, the 34th annual festival will run in hybrid form, both in-person and online, featuring over ninety films including features, documentaries, and shorts while additionally hosting exclusive festival events. Memberships, badges, and single tickets are available now at agliff.org/badges.

Added to the schedule making its Southwest premiere on Friday, August 27 is Hadaway's award-winning feature directorial debut, psychological sports drama "The Novice." Artistic Director Bears Rebecca Fonté said, "I've never seen a film quite like "The Novice", it's something you are not going to forget. This is not a feel-good sports movie; this is a cinematic descent into self-induced sadistic obsession."

Queer Black Voices Fund will host a special evening at The George Washington Carver Museum awarding grants to three filmmakers at PRISM 34, celebrating their work, and raising money for future queer black creatives. Guests will have an opportunity to meet the filmmakers, view their short films, and hear from each on the inspiration behind their films and creative process. The evening includes a catered dinner by Hoover's, beverages, and spirits from our many partners, and will culminate in a screening of Nathan Hale Williams' adaptation of "All Boys Aren't Blue" the George M. Johnson memoir manifesto.

"These stories are all Voiced by Queer Black people; however, I believe they serve as a call to action to a larger audience," said Queer Black Voices Fund Chair and aGLIFF Board Member Jeremy Teel. "QBVF is purposeful in being an example of how equitable representation in the arts can lead to reparations and justice in society. I hope people join us to support our awardees and Black Voices that are muted by prejudice by attending our dinner or donating to our fund."

Outside of screenings and events, festival goers will have the chance to dine in true Texas fashion with "Barbecue and Bourbon" at le Barbecue with an all-inclusive menu by la Barbecue, bourbon pairings by Milam & Greene Whiskeys, and additional beverages provided by festival sponsors and Topo Chico, with music by renowned DJ, Jen Lasher. Hosted by Pitmaster LeAnn Mueller, her wife Ali Clem from la Barbecue, along with Master Distiller Marlene Holmes and Milam & Greene founder Marsha Milam. Artisan Chocolatier Krystal Craig of Intero Restaurant will provide handcrafted chocolates for dessert.

PRISM organizers have planned additional fun in-person, online only, and hybrid social events such as trivia night with "The Big Queer Quiz Thing LIVE!", for the ultimate trivia experience playable in person at Austin Eastciders Restaurant & Bar or at home online; the in-person only closing weekend "Drive In & Drag" will now includeSan Francisco drag queen extraordinaire D'Arcy Drollinger in attendance for an after screening drag experience and drag show hosted by Austin drag icon Nadine Hughes in an open air dance hall exclusively at Pioneer Farms; along with an online event hosted by everyone's favorite Tupperware lady Dixie Longate for an interactive "aGLIFF Happy Hour with Dixie Longate." Additional events both online and in person are listed below.

aGLIFF has reduced capacity in some of the venues and is strongly encouraging people to be vaccinated and wear masks when attending in-person events. Festival organizers will continue to monitor the situation. Please check the Health and Safety page for the latest information and updates.

Alex Dall is a queer college freshman, unremarkable in her studies and unseen by those around her. She's a solitary soul searching for excellence. In rowing she finds her purpose, it gives her identity, it awakens a monster. Conjuring up Damien Chazelle's "Whiplash" and Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan," Alex's pursuit of perfection doesn't want for an abusive instructor. However, the psychological and physical punishment comes only from The Novice herself.
